About Acupuncture/Nutrition

During the initial consultation I always assess clients from a traditional Chinese medicine perspective and from a nutritional perspective.(There is no extra charge for this service) It normally takes about an hour and a half to fully assess a person properly. I do also ensure that clients are given a treatment during the first session. If all the information is compiled properly an accurate diagnosis and subsequent treatment can be made from the beginning.

Most people seek help from an acupuncturist when they have already tried other systems of medicine, for this reason I am accustomed to dealing with people who have long standing health issues which they are struggling to deal with. Acupuncture can be very effective for a huge range of health related syndromes. The World Health Organisation now recognises over 40 medical conditions that acupuncture has been found to be effective for. NHS NICE guidelines also recommend that acupuncture should be made available to those with lower back pain. Unfortunately not all PCT’s provide this service but many clinical trials have shown it to be effective.

Where and when relevant I will suggest nutritional supplements and or particular diets for those people who would benefit from such regimes.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I have worked for the NHS as an acupuncturist and I have had contracts with a number of charitable trusts which provide acupuncture for their clients. I am currently employed by Turning Point (a charitable trust) on a part time basis and I provide acupuncture as part of my employment with them.
I am a member of many reputable organisations because of my qualifications and experience:
Zita West Association of Reproductive Health
British Acupuncture council
Nutritional Therapy Council
Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health

I have written articles for local organisations and magazines (including the Kent Messsenger) on health issues. I have recently taken part in a research study that looked at the effects of acupuncture on people with Scizophrenia. The initial results are very promising and a number of government funded bodies have expressed an interest in setting up and expanding further study in this area.

Other concerns & issues I deal with

Fertility. As mentioned above I am a member of the Zita West Association of Reproductive Health. There is increasing clinical research that suggests that acupuncture can assist fertility particularly for those opting for IVF. The first step in all fertility treatments is to regulate menstruation and ensure it is pain free.

Addiction I work on a regular basis for Turning Point helping people with addiction issues

Joint pain including back, neck, shoulder and knee pain.
Digestive disorders including IBS allergies etc

My work with addiction means that I have worked with people who have experienced extremes of stress and anxiety. There are a number of strategies that can be very effective in this area, and when coupled with acupuncture people often begin to feel that it is possible for them to start to relax

I am a 65 year old male who has suffered from severe low back pain for several years, also neck and shoulder pain. The doctor and hospital could do nothing to aleviate my problem other than prescribing the taking of 10 pain killers per day,the medication worked for a short time but then had little effect leaving me in considerable pain and discomfort. In 2008 I decided to try an alternative method of treatment and began seeing Mrs.Wendy Lewis for acupuncture treatment. I am glad to say that regular acupuncture treatment and a few simple daily excercises have proved most benificial to the point that I have not taken any medication for over 2 years now and my back and neck are virtually pain free. I also recieve acupuncture treatment from Mrs.Wendy Lewis for a stomach reflux problem that was caused ironically by the taking of so many pain killers, this treatment is also proving to be successful and most benifcial.
